Alonso: Aston Martin Aims for Imola Optimisation

16/05/2024

Fernando Alonso stresses the need for Aston Martin F1 to optimise car settings at Imola, highlighting that new parts alone won’t suffice.

Fernando Alonso is pleased that Aston Martin F1 is bringing upgrades to Imola, as the team struggles to keep up with the top teams of the moment. The double world champion hopes to get closer to scoring big points.

“This will be important because it seems our main rivals are making progress at every race, and we don’t want to fall out of contention for strong results,” notes Alonso. “We have new parts here, and I am confident they will work as expected.”

“Besides that, we need to optimize the car settings a bit. In Miami, we may not have been in the optimal operating window for the car, and with three practice sessions here, we need to find that sweet spot.”

Alonso will want to pay tribute to Ayrton Senna, as it has been 30 years since the Brazilian died on this very circuit on May 1. Apart from an event planned for Thursday, he hopes that he and his peers can honor the triple world champion through their driving.

“It’s a special weekend; we all feel a special emotion in the paddock every time we come to Imola. We want to race and pay tribute to Ayrton. We’ll have a small celebration here with Seb [Vettel], who is also here, and we’ll try to honor him by racing intensely, just as he loved to do.”
