Wolff Confident W15 Set for Spa Shock Victory

Mercedes F1 Eyes Surprise Win at Spa, Wolff Hints

24/07/2024

Mercedes F1 gears up for a potential shock win at Spa-Francorchamps, with Wolff expressing confidence in the W15’s capabilities.

Mercedes F1 heads to the Belgian Grand Prix on a very positive trajectory, and the W15 is expected to feature further upgrades.

At a much faster track than the Hungaroring, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell might achieve the feat of another regular win, although overcoming McLaren, Verstappen, and possibly Ferrari will be required.

Toto Wolff, the team’s director, has not set specific goals but aims to continue the positive momentum from recent races.

“We approach the last race before the summer break with five consecutive podiums,” notes the Austrian.

“We aim to maintain this momentum and finish the first half of the season strongly.”

“The front of the pack is tight, and we need to be at our best to succeed. Even though we lack a bit of pace compared to some of our competitors, we continue to enhance the car’s performance.”

“We are on a positive trajectory, and that’s encouraging. It’s not yet enough to consistently battle for wins every weekend, but it has allowed us to more regularly contend for the top 3.”

“Last weekend in Hungary was not straightforward. We qualified out of position and had a lot of work to do. We managed to race well on Sunday and score good points, notably Lewis who secured his 200th F1 podium, a fantastic achievement.”

“It was positive to see the progress we made in the warmer conditions, although there is still work to be done. Spa presents a very different challenge from Budapest. With cooler temperatures and a much faster layout, which should suit us better, it will be interesting to see how the W15 performs against our rivals.”
