Wolff Calls Red Bull’s Plunge Bizarre

Wolff Stunned by Red Bull’s Dramatic Downfall

02/09/2024

Toto Wolff is baffled by Red Bull’s sudden fall from dominance in F1, marking a surprising twist in this season’s narrative.

Toto Wolff is surprised to see Red Bull struggling so much. The Mercedes F1 director does not understand how the team, which had easily dominated the early races, could now be lagging so far behind, as the fourth strongest in the pack.

“Yes, it’s really bizarre,” declared the Austrian. “I have no intuition, obviously, but it’s no longer at all the dominant Red Bull from the start of the year. I think Max was able to sustain it for a while with his capabilities, but it seems now that they have collapsed, based on the pure results.”

“And that’s what I see without understanding, without knowing what’s going on inside, because it could be an anomaly, too. It was probably one of the worst races we’ve seen from Red Bull in many years, with no pace.”

Wolff now thinks that McLaren F1 is the favorite team for the constructors’ title, but he doesn’t rule out a comeback by Red Bull: “We’ve had two years where nothing worked and the same with Ferrari a few races ago, so I don’t think you can write off Red Bull.”

“It’s a great team and I’m sure there will be better races, but McLaren is clearly the favorite for the constructors’ championship. They have two drivers who are scoring points. I bet Red Bull didn’t expect that at the start of the year.”
