Colapinto’s Solid Drive Falls Short of Points in Mexico

28/10/2024

Williams faced a challenging Sunday in Mexico, with Colapinto’s effort missing the points despite a commendable performance.

Franco Colapinto couldn’t climb into the points after starting 16th on the grid in Mexico. The Williams F1 driver was knocked out in Q1 and attempted to delay his pit stop to maximise his strategy, but ultimately it was in vain.

“We had a good race today, but of course, starting from 16th with a McLaren and a Red Bull behind me, it was always going to be tricky,” Colapinto reflected. “It was tough after yesterday’s qualifying as we struggled a lot with the rear tyres.”

“But we did well to maximise what we had, managing with the tools available to try and adjust the balance. Overall, it was a solid effort, but not enough to score points. We’ll turn our focus to Brazil, where we’ll aim to fight for the points.”

Alex Albon had little to add after getting caught up in a collision before even reaching the first corner: “It was tricky today. We didn’t get the best start, and everyone was fighting for the same position going into Turn 1.”

“It’s unfortunate we were boxed in with nowhere to go, but that’s racing. The last few weeks have been tough, with several incidents and bad timing, so we need to find a way to bounce back. On a positive note, we learned a lot this weekend.”

“We’ve finally started to understand and correct some of the balance issues we’ve struggled with over recent races. I think we could have scored points, so I hope we can turn things around and focus on Brazil, the last race of this triple-header.”
