Williams Gains Momentum with Albon’s Ninth Place

Albon Scores 2 Points After a ‘Painfully Slow’ Race

Alex Albon clinched Williams F1’s first points of the season, finishing ninth in Monaco. He praised the team’s progress despite a sluggish race pace.

Alex Albon finally secured Williams F1’s first points of the season, finishing ninth in Monaco and earning two points. The Thai driver expressed frustration at having to drive very slowly throughout the race in a stagnant pack.

“It was a bit boring. I would have liked to have an exciting race or at least a fun one to score our first points, but it’s fine. We’ve got two points, it’s done, and we’re on a good momentum. We’ve shed some weight off the car, brought in some updates, and that helps,” Albon said.

“The pace was painfully slow! I could see the pace, and I felt the guys were managing too much. We could have gone faster. It was tough towards the end of the race; the tyres were in bad shape, but I don’t think we needed to go that slow.”

Logan Sargeant was disappointed that Williams did not try a split strategy between him and Albon to attempt a different race outcome, as he had to pit again. “To be honest, I’m not sure what the team was thinking and what was done. With Alex on the hards, we should have split the strategies.”

“In the end, it was a tricky race. I got stuck behind Fernando and Daniel, which created a gap for Lance. My tyres had nothing left at the end; the hards were destroyed at the rear. It was better after changing them, but that’s how it went.”
