Albon feels at home in Singapore as Colapinto braces for a significant challenge at the Marina Bay circuit.
Alex Albon is highly optimistic ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix. The Williams F1 driver is buoyed by the team’s performance in Azerbaijan, where he finished seventh, and he is excited to race close to his fans, hoping to achieve a strong result.
“It’s a fantastic feeling to be in Singapore following a double points weekend in Baku. As the race closest to Thailand, Singapore feels like a home race for me, so it’s very special to come here and race,” Albon expressed. “The circuit shares some similarities with Baku.”
“The bumpier surface and extreme heat make it one of the most challenging circuits of the year, so it will be interesting to see how the upgrades perform under these conditions. This weekend, we aim to continue the momentum from Baku and gain a deeper understanding of the car with our additional improvements.”
Franco Colapinto has shown impressive form in his first two Grand Prix, with an eighth place in Baku highlighting these experiences. The Argentine driver anticipates more challenges this weekend.
“After a positive result in Baku, it’s crucial to reset, refocus, and restart the learning process for a new circuit. Singapore is known for being one of the most physically demanding circuits of the season due to the temperature and humidity,” Colapinto stated.
“The conditions are a challenge for any driver, and it will be a real test to see how my body adapts to the demands of driving an F1 car. I will ramp up throughout the free practice sessions before qualifying. We’ll continue to work hard, hoping to keep up the momentum from Baku.”
Sven Smeets, the team’s sporting director, looks forward to another successful weekend in Singapore: “After an excellent weekend for the team in Baku, we are eager to take part in the race in Singapore. Singapore is one of the few night races of the year, and its unique atmosphere makes it a distinctive circuit.”
“Last year, we were in the points before Alex had to retire, so it will be intriguing to see how the new package performs. It’s a much bumpier track than Baku and presents another level of challenge with the heat and humidity, making it one of the toughest races of the year.”
