Williams F1 had hoped to score points at the Belgian Grand Prix, with Alex Albon starting from the top 10 on the grid. Sporting Director Sven Smeets explains why the race turned into a disappointment.
“It was a tough and disappointing afternoon this Sunday at Spa. We started the race well with Alex gaining two positions at the start and a strong first stint on mediums behind Fernando,” Smeets stated.
“We decided to cover some of the early stops and fit mediums again. Unfortunately, we struggled during this second stint, and it became clear that some of our competitors were faster than us.”
The Belgian acknowledges the challenge for Williams: “13th place was all there was to be had in Belgium, but with George’s disqualification, this moves Alex up to 12th place and Logan to 17th place.”
“We will use the summer break to recharge and return stronger for the Netherlands with some improvements planned for the upcoming races after the break.”
