Williams F1 Gains with Sainz's Expertise, Says Albon

Albon: Sainz’s Ferrari Experience a Key Asset for Williams

18/01/2025

Albon hails Sainz’s arrival at Williams, emphasizing the Spaniard’s Ferrari experience as a crucial boost for the team’s ambitions.

Alex Albon expects to have a very strong teammate in Carlos Sainz this year at Williams F1. According to him, the fact that the Spaniard comes from Ferrari and competed against Charles Leclerc will make him a formidable opponent.

“I love it, it’s a big challenge,” Albon told Racer. “I think Carlos comes in with a lot of experience. I think he had a fantastic season against Charles, who is an extremely strong driver.”

“For me, it’s great to have someone I can directly compare myself to. I feel like that has always been a bit of a burden for me in some ways because it seems like no one really knows where I stand. I’m confident in myself, and I know I’m pretty good.”

However, the Thai driver primarily sees his new teammate as an asset for Williams: “I’m happy that Carlos is here… What he brings to Williams will be very important for us. The experience he has, the knowledge of a top team like Ferrari that performs well week after week.”

“When I joined Williams after leaving Red Bull, it was clear I had a lot to give and wanted to give to improve the team. But now it’s been three years since I’ve been part of the team.”

“And while I continue to push and steer the team in the direction I think is necessary, having a fresh perspective in the team can only be beneficial. As a teammate, I think I’ll be very open. I just want to hear what he has to say about the car, but also about the direction he believes we need to take.”
