Franco Colapinto admits Williams F1 took a significant gamble by signing him, with doubts over their decision. Now, he’s proving his worth on the track.

A risky bet, but a successful one… for now! Franco Colapinto acknowledged that his team, Williams F1, took a “big risk” by appointing him as a full-time driver for the remainder of the season, replacing Logan Sargeant.

Colapinto was promoted to replace the struggling American, and the Argentine has impressed in his three races so far, with the Baku race seeing him secure eighth place and his first points in F1.

“James Vowles (the team principal) was very open and took a very big risk, he made a big gamble, and many people were not convinced of the wisdom of his decision.”

“I hope to show that I deserve my seat here, that I deserve to be in F1, and to repay the trust James placed in me by putting me in this position.”

Colapinto added that Williams has legitimacy when it comes to giving inexperienced drivers their first opportunities in F1.

“Williams has always been a team that gives young drivers opportunities.”

“It’s somewhat of a legacy, and if you look at Williams’ history, how many opportunities they’ve given young drivers, they’re the biggest team in this regard.”

“They’re a team known and recognized for this reason.”
