Will F1's 2025 Roster Expand Beyond the Top Four

Brown Foresees 2025 as F1’s Most Epic Season Yet

19/08/2024

Zak Brown predicts a thrilling F1 season in 2025, with potential newcomers challenging the elite quartet.

Zak Brown firmly believes that other teams could make significant strides by the end of the current Formula 1 regulations. The CEO of McLaren F1 is pleased with his team’s return to the forefront but does not rule out the possibility of another team making similar progress next year, and he anticipates a spectacular season.

“Next year could be an epic season,” Brown stated. “It will be an evolution with four teams fighting for the championship, and I think it would be naive to rule out anyone who is not currently in the top four.”

“We can see how quickly things have changed, with Aston Martin having fallen back but then climbed up again. Red Bull was very fast at the start of the year, so there’s no reason why teams can’t do what we have done.”

“We achieved this through hard work and great people, but everyone has the same budget, everyone has the same technology. There’s no reason why others can’t replicate what we did last year.”

The American acknowledges that he is unsure what to expect for 2026 when chassis and engine regulations will change. He doesn’t know what McLaren will be capable of, but he believes the Mercedes engine won’t be a problem.

“I’m both excited and nervous because you don’t know what’s going to happen. I’m very confident about the Mercedes power unit, so what keeps me awake at night for 2026 is simply the unknown.”

“The power unit is the least of our worries, and I’m very confident about the state of Mercedes’ development, and of course, you don’t know where the others stand. But they feel very good, so we feel good.”
