W15 development done - Mercedes shifts full focus to 2025

Mercedes F1 completes W15, eyes 2025 focus with W16 plan

Mercedes F1 has wrapped up W15 development, turning its focus towards next season and validating the direction for the W16.

Mercedes F1’s Trackside Engineering Director, Andrew Shovlin, has revealed that the Brackley-based team has no further updates planned for the current F1 season.

Mercedes arrived in Austin, Texas, with a range of updates focused on the front wing, front suspension, and the floor.

While the ongoing battle for the championship titles between Red Bull, Ferrari, and McLaren continues to dominate the development race, attention remains firmly on this year’s F1 cars.

However, Shovlin hinted that Mercedes is now shifting its focus towards next year’s car by scaling back updates to the W15.

“We’ve brought pretty much everything we had planned to bring for the end of the year.”

“That’s not to say we won’t make further changes based on the lessons we learn from the remaining races, but these will be adjustments to existing parts. No major updates are planned for us from now on.”

Mercedes currently holds fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship, which would mark its worst result since the 2012 season.

As the team looks to solidify the car’s performance ahead of the 2025 season, Shovlin expressed confidence that the new floor is moving in the right direction.

“It’s too late to do better than fourth place, but we are highly confident in the direction we’ve taken. The key now is to fully understand our developments. On Sunday, George had the best pace and delivered a spectacular comeback.”

“We’ve done all the necessary work to ensure this will be a step forward as we prepare for 2025, because next year, as everyone knows, most of the budget will be dedicated to 2026.”

“So, making this floor work and seeing that we’re getting the expected results in terms of pressures and loads is part of the validation process to ensure the W16 gets off to a strong start.”

“To reach this point, we’ve done all the groundwork to confirm everything should go smoothly with these updates. We’ve learned from this weekend in Austin and will continue learning in Mexico.”
