Sebastian Vettel advises Max Verstappen to remain at Red Bull, despite speculations of a move to Mercedes amid internal strife.
Four-time F1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel has cautioned Max Verstappen against leaving Red Bull amidst ongoing turmoil.
Despite being under contract with Red Bull until the end of 2028, Verstappen’s future in F1 remains a hot topic.
The Dutchman has recently been linked with a move to Mercedes amid the continuing Christian Horner saga.
Speculation about Verstappen leaving Red Bull was indeed sparked by his father, Jos Verstappen, who has called for Horner’s resignation and was seen talking to Toto Wolff shortly thereafter. And Toto Wolff continues to openly “woo” the Dutch driver, offering him a spot for 2025 on his team.
Vettel – who secured all his world titles with Red Bull – has weighed in on Verstappen’s situation.
“There’s certainly a lot of turmoil at the moment, but I believe from a sporting perspective, there’s currently no reason for him to think about anything else.”
Will he replace Hamilton?
“The question has been raised, it’s his choice if he has the option to break his contract or if the turmoil outweighs the pure performance side for him.”
Like Lewis Hamilton will in 2025, Vettel left Red Bull for Ferrari in 2015 but ultimately failed to win a fifth world championship.
Vettel acknowledged that Hamilton’s decision to leave Mercedes was “a very, very hard decision to make.”
“Of course, like many, I was surprised by the bond he had with Mercedes over the years, a bond that seemed unbreakable. I thought that somehow, these rumors suddenly coming out of nowhere would be denied, as usual. But then it was confirmed!”
“I immediately wrote to him and congratulated him.”
“I understand the need to try something different, as I did moving from Red Bull to Ferrari.”
