Verstappen voiced discontent on social media after Red Bull swapped Lawson for Tsunoda

Max Verstappen criticizes Red Bull’s quick decision to swap Lawson for Tsunoda, voicing concerns over the team’s handling of the situation.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen voiced his discontent on social media after the team announced the swap of Liam Lawson for Yuki Tsunoda ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix.

As we’ve known for a few days, Verstappen disagrees with Red Bull Racing’s decision to promote Tsunoda so quickly while demoting Lawson after just two races, despite the New Zealander’s challenging start in the RB21. Lawson had only two races to prove his worth before the team officially confirmed the change this morning.

Verstappen Supports Van der Garde’s Criticism

Verstappen’s frustration became clear when he liked a comment on Instagram from his friend and former F1 driver, Giedo van der Garde. Van der Garde criticized Red Bull’s decision, calling it “close to bullying” and a “panic move” to part ways with Lawson after only two races.

“I’m really getting tired of all these comments saying F1 is the hardest sport in terms of performance, and when you’re not performing, you must face the consequences,” van der Garde wrote.

“Yes, you have to perform. Yes, the pressure is insane. But in my opinion, this is more about bullying or a panic reaction than real top-level sports achievement.”

He continued, “They made a decision, knowingly: give Liam two races, only to break him. Let’s not forget the dedication, hard work, and success Liam has achieved throughout his career to get to this level. I remember the blood, sweat, and tears it took me to get to F1.”

Van der Garde also pointed out that driving for a top team is no easy feat. “Sure, he underperformed in the first two races, but if anyone knows that, it’s him.”

He concluded, “Maybe he suggested it himself, but if not, I wish Liam all the strength and courage he needs on the grid in Japan. Trust yourself, hold your head high, and show them they’re wrong.”
