Verstappen fought through intense challenges in Brazil, claiming his first victory since June in a gripping display of skill and resilience.
Max Verstappen delivered what may well be one of the finest performances of his career, clawing his way from a 16th-place start (following Alex Albon’s withdrawal) to take victory with nearly a 20-second lead over Esteban Ocon.
Knocked out in Q2 and handed a five-place penalty, the Red Bull driver showcased an impressive recovery, biding his time before capitalising on a red flag that allowed a tyre change without losing any time. A decisive overtake on Ocon saw him take the lead, where he then proceeded to string together the fastest laps.
“My emotions have been a rollercoaster. I was unlucky in qualifying with the red flag, starting 17th, and I knew it would be a tough race. But we avoided trouble, stayed calm, and that made this result possible. Winning from so far back on the grid here…” an emotional Verstappen commented.
He further explained why he attacked Ocon immediately after the restart: “It was difficult to overtake here with the new asphalt; there was only one racing line, so I knew I had to go for it. It’s easy to lock up, but Turn 1 is always a good spot to make a pass.”
