Max Verstappen remains unfazed by concerns over Red Bull Powertrains’ 2026 engine project, insisting he won’t waste energy worrying about speculation.
Red Bull Racing will reach a unique milestone in its history in 2026. The Milton Keynes team will become an engine manufacturer in partnership with Ford, producing the V6 combustion engines that will be paired with an electric unit designed by the American automaker.
However, rumors surrounding the RBPT-Ford V6 project have been mostly negative, with reports of delays. This does not concern Max Verstappen, who emphasizes that the challenge is immense for all engine manufacturers.
“Everyone is working flat out,” the Dutchman began. “Everyone is doing their best. That’s the only thing we can do. They are also working very hard for 2026. Of course, naturally, we focus on 2026, but at the same time, we also focus on this year.”
In response to sometimes worrying rumors, Verstappen remains pragmatic: “Yes, but that’s the case for everyone. I’m not going to say it will be super easy to be immediately competitive, but we believe we can do a good job, and I trust what people tell me.”
“Besides, I could stress about it, but that would just be a waste of energy. I guess we’ll find out when the car is running, and then we’ll see where we stand. I don’t like being too worried in life anymore. If it’s bad, it’s bad. If it’s good, it’s good. Life goes on.”
Chasing a fifth consecutive crown at the start of what promises to be a highly competitive season, Verstappen hopes to have his chance but remains cautious: “It would be nice, but it’s impossible to say right now. I haven’t driven my car, and no one has seen the other cars. Thinking about it now is just a waste of energy.”
“Honestly, we just hope to be competitive as a team. If we are competitive, then I’m sure we can win again because I think we are a very strong team. We are very experienced, and I think we also showed that last year.”
“It was a bit more challenging for us. We kept optimizing our results, and I think that’s one of the team’s great strengths. So, yes, we’ll see. It’s exciting. I mean, I don’t know where we stand at the moment. I think no one does, but in a few weeks, we’ll find out.”
