Verstappen labels his FIA swearing penalty ‘bizarre’ and chooses to remain silent on the issue.
Max Verstappen refrained from commenting on the penalty imposed by the FIA following his expletives during a press conference. The three-time world champion was frustrated for being singled out for saying “fuck,” resulting in a community service punishment for repeating it during the press event.
“I have nothing to say,” Verstappen stated, before elaborating when pressed further, noting a perceived unfairness. “It would be better if I said nothing at all about this. Anything I say on this matter really isn’t worth dwelling on. I think it’s all quite bizarre.”
“It’s remarkable that Kevin [Magnussen] also used the F-word during media day, yet he wasn’t penalised. The reason for this is unclear. Perhaps because he didn’t say it during the official press conference? Next time, don’t ask me anything at the press conference and we can tell our story here.”
One of the race stewards this weekend is Johnny Herbert, with whom Verstappen has had disagreements in the past. Nevertheless, he does not wish to consider it as any form of revenge: “Is it something personal? I don’t engage in those kinds of thoughts, and I don’t want to waste my energy on that.”
The Red Bull driver is still unsure what his punishment will entail: “I’ll probably have to attend something, maybe via a laptop. A conference, or something like that.”
