Jos Verstappen Confesses to Hitting Son Max in Training

03/08/2024

Jos Verstappen admits to physically disciplining his son Max during training sessions, sparking controversy.

Jos Verstappen is not known for being an ideal father, and there are numerous accounts of his sometimes violent behaviour towards his son Max. The Dutchman raised his son strictly to shape his character, a point often criticised.

The latest story he discussed will not work in his favour, as he revealed having hit his son while he was wearing his helmet. “He needed it,” he asserted to TIME, unapologetically and without compassion or sensitivity, arguing that his son won the race that day.

The subject himself acknowledges that he disliked being forced into seriousness by his father, although it allowed him to progress very quickly. He reveals that it was a constant source of discord.

“From a young age, I saw other children running, playing, without really thinking about the future,” Max recounts. “But my father had a plan. And I had to stick to that plan. Sometimes he thought I was a bit lazy. I really had arguments with my father about this.”
