Verstappen Seizes on McLaren Errors in Canada

Red Bull capitalised on McLaren’s woes as Max Verstappen secured vital points, keeping the championship fight alive at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Red Bull secured a second-place finish that Christian Horner, the team principal, considered a success at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Indeed, the Briton explained that the pace of Max Verstappen’s RB21 was more than satisfactory throughout the race.

“Max had a good race in Canada. He was competitive from start to finish. So it’s a solid day in the Drivers’ Championship and good points for Max,” Horner noted.

“We were competitive in the final stint and there were probably moments when we could have pushed a little harder, but that final stint was certainly very closely fought.”

“We’re going to focus on analyzing the race and taking the positives from it. McLaren obviously had a difficult race, and you have to be there to capitalize on that. But we can only focus on ourselves.”

“McLaren has two drivers racing on equal terms and they’ve performed so well that it took ten races for a collision to happen. That’s racing, and on days like that, you have to try to take advantage.”

Horner also encouraged Yuki Tsunoda and acknowledged the efforts of the day’s winners: “I think as a team, we did a good job and gave it everything. Yuki had a good one-stop race and was unlucky to miss out on points at the end.”

Finally, Horner, who filed a protest against Mercedes F1 at the end of the race that was ultimately dismissed, nonetheless praised his rivals.

“Mercedes did a good job this weekend and it shows how things can change. Well done to them and to George, we’ll fight at the next Grand Prix, at home in Austria, to win.”
