Max Verstappen celebrated a stunning Qatar GP victory, highlighting Red Bull’s turnaround and his thrilling battle with Lando Norris.
Max Verstappen claimed victory in the Qatar Grand Prix, his first dry-weather win since spring, and the Red Bull driver expressed admiration for his team’s ability to turn the situation around after a challenging Sprint on Saturday. He also thoroughly enjoyed his battle with Lando Norris early in the race.
“It was a very good race. The car was much better, and today the first stint was very fast. Lando and I were within 1.8 seconds of each other throughout, pushing hard, and it was great fun. The track had a lot of grip, the tyres held up this year, and it was fantastic to push,” the Dutchman said.
“We extended the first stint, and later there were some safety cars on track, which required careful management, but I’m very happy. It’s been a long time since we’ve been this competitive in the dry, and I’m proud of everyone in the team for turning things around in just one day. They truly deserve this win.”
“On the hard tyres, there’s little grip. After the pit stop and the restart, they were cold, and I had no traction in the corners. It was tricky in the first turn, but it went well, we had good pace, and I’m happy to take the win.”
Can he end the season with another victory? Verstappen is uncertain: “It’s hard to say. We’ve been competitive there in recent years, but we’ll need to focus on the details to optimize the car if we want to fight for the win.”
