Verstappen: This ‘very stupid’ punishment has me reconsidering my future in F1

Verstappen contemplates F1 exit after a ‘very stupid’ punishment, skipping the post-Singapore press conference.

Max Verstappen once again gave the official FIA post-race press conference in Singapore a miss, offering only brief responses to each question posed to him.

Outside the confines of the press room, he hinted that his penalty for swearing during an FIA press conference on Thursday before the Singapore Grand Prix was troubling him. Tonight, he even acknowledged that this could precipitate an early retirement from F1!

At the end of the conference, he chose to engage with the media outside, conducting an impromptu press briefing in the paddock.

Asked if these penalties could trigger an early retirement, Verstappen was forthright.

“Oh, absolutely. I mean, these kinds of things definitely decide my future as well.”

“You can’t be yourself, or you have to deal with this sort of nonsense. I think I’m at a point in my career where you don’t want to be facing this all the time. It’s truly exhausting.”

“Of course, it’s fantastic to be successful and to win races, but once you’ve achieved all that, having won championships and races, you want to have a good time as well.”

“Sure, everyone pushes the boundaries. Everyone in this battle, even at the back of the grid. But if you have to cope with all these ridiculous things, for me, that’s another reason to possibly step away from the sport.”

Will he boycott his community service as Lewis Hamilton suggested yesterday?

“It’s not him who’s being punished! I don’t know how seriously they’ll take these things. But for me, at some point, enough is enough. And we’ll see. Everything will go on, I have no doubt.”

“It’s not a problem because Formula 1 will continue without me, but it’s not a problem for me either. That’s just how it goes.”

“For now, I’m not even thinking about that decision. I’m just focusing on the performance, on what we’re going to do in Austin and beyond.”

“That’s what I’m thinking about, and for me, I shouldn’t waste energy on it actually, because it’s just very stupid.”
