Verstappen Regularly Briefed on RBPT 2026 Engine

Horner Keeps Verstappen in the Loop on 2026 Engine

27/07/2024

Horner ensures Verstappen is briefed on the 2026 engine. Every visit brings new insights, marking noticeable progress.

There are still many steps to be taken before a Red Bull Powertrains (RBPT) engine takes to the track in 2026, but success is non-negotiable according to Christian Horner, the team principal.

Red Bull is “accustomed to winning and has embarked on this project to try and give itself the best chance of continuing on this path, with a watchful eye on the development of our new facilities and ongoing work.”

These reassuring words are also meant for Max Verstappen, who might consider leaving the team for another challenge like Mercedes F1.

Horner ensures that the three-time world champion is kept abreast of all progress.

“Max was given a comprehensive tour of the engine factory and our program about a month ago, and we showed him where we were in terms of progress. We keep him informed, and every time he visits, he notices a difference or sees more engines running or more progress.”

“He is part of this journey and I think it really excites him, he shows tremendous interest in the ongoing development. I think it almost goes back to when he was karting and tuning engines which he loved to do with his father.”

“I think it gives him confidence to see the scale of the effort and investment. This is the biggest investment Red Bull has ever made in motorsport, and together with Ford, we must succeed.”

“We cannot afford for this project to fail.”

What are the challenges Red Bull must face as a new engine manufacturer?

“Just the usual challenges. The biggest challenge for us as a new organisation is that our processes are maturing, and we are learning every week. But we are pushing very, very aggressively. And if I look back at our performance progress, it is on track. Durability is on track, where we hope to be at this stage.”

“Is it enough? Who knows, I don’t know what the goals of the others are. But for now, the team is hitting every key milestone as defined and on time.”
