Max Verstappen hints at a future with Honda, despite their switch to Aston Martin, as he celebrates a successful partnership with Red Bull.
Starting in 2026, Honda will power Aston Martin’s Formula 1 team, but Max Verstappen hasn’t ruled out a future with the Japanese manufacturer.
During a recent “show-run” event in Tokyo, where he drove former Red Bull F1 cars, Verstappen addressed Honda, saying, “It’s a goodbye for now.”
Since 2021, Verstappen has clinched four consecutive driver titles, all while racing with a Honda engine. However, Honda is set to exclusively supply engines to Aston Martin F1 starting in 2026.
The Dutch driver has been linked to potential moves to Aston Martin or Mercedes in the future, with Red Bull’s advisor, Dr. Helmut Marko, acknowledging the presence of contract exit clauses.
“I’m still quite young, and you never know what the future holds,” Verstappen said when asked about his comment on Honda. “Who knows what the future brings? Honda is officially coming back to the sport with another team. Everything is always open.”
This weekend marks Honda’s final race as Red Bull’s engine partner.
“I just want to enjoy the weekend and go as fast as I can, but it’s also about remembering everything we’ve achieved together in this sport,” Verstappen added. “And who knows, maybe in the future as well. I never could have imagined reaching the heights we have, with four championships together.”
