Norris Swaps to Old Floor Post-Verstappen Clash

04/07/2024

Following an on-track clash in Austria with Max Verstappen, Lando Norris will switch back to an older floor model to mitigate damage.

Lando Norris revealed that damage to his car was identified following a clash with Max Verstappen. The McLaren F1 driver will revert to other floors, repaired after previous races, as the one he used last Sunday was damaged.

“Everything is fine. It’s more a long-term issue that has a greater impact than just this weekend,” explained Norris. “We have spare floors that were already damaged, which we have managed to repair and prepare.”

“The team did a remarkable job preparing things. We knew that with three consecutive races, things could easily go wrong and there could be a lot of damage. It’s not hard to damage a floor in the first place.”

“You drive over a kerb, and it can get damaged quite easily. So, the team did a good job to ensure we had enough, that we had others for this weekend, and that we had others that had been repaired.”

The Briton explains that damage related to a puncture can quickly become significant, as the tearing rubber can strike several body parts and cause further issues.

“Like a pontoon, brake ducts, all these things add up. And when you’re in a tight fight for the championship and pushing hard, you’re always trying to push the limits of everything but the race.”

“There’s the budget cap and all, and the CFD, all these kinds of things, you just want as much money as possible. It’s a bit unfortunate, but the team did an excellent job to ensure everything was fine for this weekend.”
