Max Verstappen believes a yellow flag cost him pole, but starting second offers strong potential for victory in Austin.
Max Verstappen expressed some frustration after qualifying for the United States Grand Prix, where a yellow flag interrupted what was shaping up to be a strong second run in Q3, following an off-track moment by George Russell.
Due to the track neutralisation, the Red Bull driver had to settle for second place, just 0.031 seconds behind Lando Norris, who had delivered an impressive first lap in the final part of qualifying.
“In the first Q3 lap, I lost a bit of time there. I knew we had another run, but I didn’t finish the lap. Otherwise, I think we had a chance. But we’re on the front row, and there’s potential to finish first, so it’s fine,” Verstappen remarked.
The Dutchman confirmed his aim to go for the race win, having shown strong pace during the Sprint: “We were competitive, so we made minor adjustments to the car, and we think it will be positive for tomorrow.”
