Verstappen Eager for Melbourne Challenge

Verstappen Eyes 3rd Win, Record 10th Consecutive Victory

20/03/2024

Max Verstappen anticipates a thrilling Melbourne Grand Prix, eyeing a third seasonal win amidst a record-setting streak.

Max Verstappen will aim for a third victory early in the season, and a tenth consecutive success, a record he would establish for the second time in his career. The Red Bull driver has not retired for two years (Melbourne 2022), with 43 consecutive points finishes, including 35 victories, and he will, of course, seek to continue this streak.

“We look forward to racing in Melbourne,” Verstappen said. “It’s a very fast track, requiring a good mix of straight-line speed and grip in the corners, so it’s about finding the right balance. The recent resurfacing has made the track much smoother and more enjoyable to drive, so we are eager to get there.”

“We also have softer tires than last year, which will make the strategy a bit more challenging, but we hope it will be more conducive to racing thanks to a greater number of pit stops.”

“Adjusting to the time difference is always a challenge, but it’s always a pleasure to be in Melbourne, and it’s incredible to see all the racing enthusiasts come out to support us!”

Pérez looks forward to the RB20’s performance

Sergio Pérez is also pleased to head to Melbourne for what promises to be an interesting Grand Prix. The Mexican is curious to see how the RB20 will perform on Albert Park’s track, which is very different from the first two circuits of the season.

“It’s always a very fun week, and the fans bring a lot of energy to the track. We have worked hard as a team since Saudi Arabia to improve on certain aspects we had identified, and I hope the car will be in a better window,” notes Pérez.

“I’ve been in Milton Keynes with my engineers and am eager to see how we can perform with a few minor changes. The car has been competitive so far, but Albert Park is a completely different test for the RB20, and it will be interesting to see how we fare.”

“I think the field will be very competitive this weekend, so it’s important that we perform well in qualifying to put ourselves in a positive position for Sunday. Last year’s race here was a bit crazy, so I hope for a somewhat simpler weekend!”
