Verstappen Lauds Timely Strategy in Tough Race

Verstappen commends crucial tactical choices that secured his second-place finish in a demanding race.

Max Verstappen narrowly missed out on victory at Silverstone, settling for second place behind Lewis Hamilton. Starting fourth, the Red Bull driver endured a challenging race, experiencing several phases of lacklustre performance before regaining pace towards the end.

“We didn’t have the pace today, I lost time when it mattered, at the start, it didn’t look good at one point, I thought I would finish fifth or sixth, but we made the right decisions, switching to intermediates and then back to slicks,” Verstappen recounted.

“Each time, it was on the correct lap, and the team’s decision to switch to hard tyres instead of softs towards the end helped me secure second place. It could have been worse, but we made the right decisions and finished second, so I’m pleased with that.”

Completely outpaced during the first downpour, he explained his cautious approach and credited his team’s astute strategy: “When it started to rain the first time, I was losing time, I had little grip and wasn’t taking risks. I saw the others pulling ahead and I didn’t risk going off track.”

“It was tricky, and at one point it began to rain harder and we had to switch to intermediates. We tried to make them last, then the sun came back but I felt comfortable on the intermediates. So, switching back to slicks was a gamble, but it all worked out well.”
