Max Verstappen delivered an impeccable performance in Bahrain, securing a Grand Slam from pole to victory, marking a special season opener.
Max Verstappen crushed the season’s opening race in Bahrain, dominating from start to finish to achieve a Grand Slam—securing pole position, the win, the fastest lap, and leading every lap. Often measured in his responses, the Red Bull driver acknowledges that this race was special.
“It went better than expected, the car was great to drive on all compounds, we had a lot of pace, and it was fantastic to drive. We stayed out of trouble, and it’s a great start to the season, I couldn’t have hoped for better,” Verstappen remarked.
The Dutchman felt extremely comfortable in the RB20: “It was a lot of fun, I felt good in the car, and it’s special to have days like this because it’s rare for things to go this well. I was at one with the car, and everything seemed perfect.”
“The start was good, the first corners are tight so I defended the inside to be sure, and after that, I focused on my race.”
“The maximum” Pérez could achieve
Sergio Pérez rounded off Red Bull’s excellent result without being able to challenge his teammate: “I think that was the maximum we could achieve. The race was tricky with tire management, we’ll learn a lot from this race, and it will be important for the rest of the season, but it’s a good way to start the season.”
He explained the challenges faced: “There was sliding, we had issues with engine braking, which is difficult here because there are a lot of slow corners. We’ll analyze everything to be ready for Jeddah.”
Now, the Mexican looks forward to the season’s second race next week in Saudi Arabia: “It’s a good momentum for the team, we’ll try to keep it.”
