Red Bull Struggles in Monaco Qualifying

25/05/2024

Red Bull faced disappointment in Monaco as Verstappen qualified 6th and Pérez only 18th, highlighting their car’s difficulty on this challenging circuit.

Max Verstappen qualified 6th in Monaco, a result that aligns with expectations after yesterday’s performance but is disappointing following Q1 and Q2 where the Red Bull driver showed top-3 pace.

Unfortunately, Verstappen made an error on his final flying lap, clipping the barriers and missing out on a second run.

“That’s how it goes here. You have to go for it, but I don’t think we could have matched Charles’ time. The top 3 was possible, though.”

“We have a very difficult car to drive here. We’ve managed to tame it somewhat compared to yesterday, but several corners still pose problems, preventing us from finding those last few tenths.”

“6th isn’t great for tomorrow. Let’s hope for an eventful race up front, but Ferrari and McLaren have strong pace.”

Sergio Pérez was eliminated in Q1 with only the 18th fastest time. A disastrous result for the Mexican driver.

“I had traffic on my lap, enough to lose a few tenths. We couldn’t put everything together, and we were eliminated. It’s a bad day for me because I have nothing to hope for tomorrow. We’re completely outpaced, and making up ground will be a huge challenge.”

“We were finding solutions, we were fifth this morning, but we couldn’t get into the rhythm. As usual, you have to nail a lap when you can, and with the traffic, it wasn’t enough.”

Christian Horner, the team principal, admits Red Bull is struggling this weekend.

“It’s been tough all weekend. The car doesn’t suit the characteristics of this circuit.”

“Up until that last run, everything between second and sixth place was up for grabs, but unfortunately, we couldn’t take part in that final run due to Max’s mistake.”

“The first sector was strong for us. Our main issues are the hairpin, then turn five and turn 10.”

“The race is almost over for Sergio without Safety Cars. But we’ll try to fight back.”

“Our race pace has been quite good, but I’m not sure we’ll be able to show it depending on how the traffic evolves.”
