Ferrari’s star-studded lineup fuels championship ambitions as Vasseur embraces a “luxury problem” with Hamilton and Leclerc leading the charge.
Ferrari aims to improve after its 2024 season, where the team finished 14 points behind McLaren F1 in the Constructors’ Championship. Frédéric Vasseur, entering his third season at the helm of the Scuderia, confirms that the goal is to do better and secure the crown.
“It’s like every season—we have a new car, a new livery, new sponsors, and in our case, a new driver duo. It’s a new challenge we’re ready to fight for, and it’s always exciting to kick off a new season,” Vasseur stated.
“After a 2024 season where we narrowly missed the title in the final race, the objective is clear this year: to win. We’ve gathered everything needed to achieve that. Last year, we fell short in small details across two or three races.”
“We had race incidents, a rough patch in mid-summer with some challenging technical developments, but the package is there, the team is ready, and we’ve made progress over the past two years. The objective is clear for 2025.”
Asked about the potential risks of pairing Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, Vasseur insists it is an asset, not a drawback: “Having Charles and Lewis in the team is not a problem—or if it is, it’s a luxury problem.”
“I think everyone would love to have this duo, and I’m delighted to have brought them together in the team. As for their collaboration, I believe there is immense mutual respect. They know the priority is making Ferrari win above all, and from that perspective, I have no concerns.”
“Having known both of them in junior formulas is an advantage. I was able to build a relationship with them before they became world champions or Grand Prix winners. It allows us to start on a more solid foundation, and I am very confident for this year.”
According to the Frenchman, the season’s hierarchy will also depend on how each team starts the year, as a difficult beginning could lead some to completely shift focus to the regulatory overhaul of the following season.
“We ended 2024 with a very tight field, with four teams capable of winning races and seven drivers who took victories during the season. It was great for F1, a fantastic championship—perhaps the best in recent years.”
“This sets up an exciting 2025, as the pecking order is hard to predict. What is certain is that it will also be a year of preparation for 2026. A key development decision will have to be made early in the season, and the early-season hierarchy will likely be crucial for the championship.”
