Ferrari’s team principal Fred Vasseur discusses the team’s challenges in qualifying and the upcoming upgrades, with hopes for a turnaround.

Fred Vasseur has openly acknowledged that Ferrari’s performance in qualifying is one of the key factors holding the team back from securing better results on race day. The Scuderia’s team principal emphasized that while their race pace is strong, they need to improve their consistency across the weekend.

“If we’re not further up the grid, it’s clearly down to qualifying,” Vasseur said. “Our race pace has always been solid. We just need to be more consistent throughout the weekend, in every session, and do a better job. It’s clear we have weaknesses, particularly in qualifying.”

Last season, Ferrari was able to address its car’s limitations through a series of upgrades, and Vasseur reveals the team’s approach will remain the same this year.

“We need to be honest with ourselves and analyze the situation. Once you identify where the problems are, you can work on solving them, and we believe we know where we need to focus. We’re sticking to the same approach as last year and taking it race by race.”

However, Ferrari’s biggest upgrade package won’t be coming at the next race in Miami. “Miami has the sprint race, so there’s not much time for development. We’ll likely bring updates to Imola,” Vasseur confirmed.

The Ferrari boss also pointed out that the team’s double disqualification in Shanghai has unfairly painted a more negative picture of their performance than what the actual situation is. “We’re still paying for the points we lost in China compared to our competitors. We need to focus on the future, push forward together, and the results will come.”
