Vasseur - Leclerc's Burden Lifted in Monaco

Leclerc Sheds Monaco Pressure, Says Vasseur

28/05/2024

Charles Leclerc’s victory in Monaco relieves years of pressure, boosting his confidence for future races, according to Ferrari’s Frédéric Vasseur.

Frédéric Vasseur discussed how Charles Leclerc’s victory would impact the Monegasque driver’s future. The Ferrari team principal noted that the pressure would be lessened, both for Leclerc himself and in dealing with the persistent media questions.

“Firstly, you will stop asking him every year what will happen next year, what will happen this week,” Vasseur said. “That’s over now, it’s behind us. This is important because he had a weight on his shoulders for years because of the victory in Monaco.”

“Sometimes he made small mistakes like in F2, sometimes he was unlucky like in F1 with me at Alfa Romeo when we had a brake failure, and in the end, he wasn’t in doubt.”

“But he was under some pressure with that, but it’s not just about Monaco. I think for his own self-confidence and his approach to all other events, Charles will certainly take a step forward.”

When asked if Leclerc is stronger in 2022 to contend for the title, Vasseur remains cautious: “I don’t know about that, and I don’t want to draw any conclusions. I think this victory will help him a lot, that’s for sure, in terms of confidence. I think one of the characteristics of winners is that they get used to winning at some point.”

“They have the confidence to handle the situation and even when something happens, they have the assurance that it’s not serious and they will get it next time. When you have doubts, it’s a big difference and I think from this victory, he will certainly take a step forward.”
