Fred Vasseur praised Ferrari’s strategic mastery and Charles Leclerc’s skill after a triumphant race at Monza.
Fred Vasseur was ecstatic following the triumph of Charles Leclerc and Ferrari at Monza, on the team’s home turf. The Scuderia’s director was full of praise for his driver and for Ferrari’s strategic and operational success in front of the tifosi.
“What an exceptional result for the team! It’s a real confidence boost for all of us and for our tifosi who really made the difference this weekend,” the Frenchman stated.
“It was a very good race in which Charles drove incredibly well and I think we fully deserve this victory. After qualifying, we were a bit disappointed because we knew we had the potential to do very well.”
“Since the beginning of the season, we are probably in a better position in race pace than in qualifying and that was also the case at Monza. Once again, the execution was very good and we were able to turn the situation around. Everything went well in the race and when it works like that, it’s perfect.”
Vasseur is pleased that tire management is one of Ferrari’s strengths: “Honestly, last year, tire management was our greatest weakness whereas now, I think it’s one of the advantages we have with this car.”
“It was already the case last week at Zandvoort and now we are quite consistent in terms of race pace. We are quite steady on the tires and the drivers are also doing a very good job managing the tires. They have good sensations.”
“To the point where we thought about making two stops but then saw very low degradation in the second stint and accordingly changed our strategy, and Charles was in control of the race all the time. It was a risk but sometimes you have to take risks and it worked.”
“We worked well as a team and we knew that Carlos could help us if we went for a single stop with both cars. He also helped us with feedback on the tires because it’s important to have two opinions, two different sources of information and we were quite relaxed about that.”
“Honestly, I think everyone in the team played their role and did very well, and I couldn’t be happier,” a delighted Vasseur concluded.
