Mixed Fortunes for RB F1: Tsunoda Up, Ricciardo Down

21/07/2024

In Hungary, Tsunoda shines as Ricciardo faces a dire race day, stirring mixed emotions within RB F1.

Yuki Tsunoda finished ninth after starting in tenth position, and the RB F1 driver did not anticipate such a strong result in Hungary. He expressed gratitude to his team for the swift and precise repairs following his significant qualifying crash.

“I’m very pleased with my race, and kudos to the team for repairing the car quickly and accurately since last night; I thank them,” stated the Japanese driver, before elaborating on his race management without jumping to conclusions ahead of Belgium.

“We did a great job with management, the engineers as well, and we want to keep it up. The car is in good shape. But Spa is a completely different track, we don’t know what to expect but we will try to maximise our pace as much as possible.”

Daniel Ricciardo did not hide his frustration with his team’s strategy: “I didn’t want to stop, I knew it wasn’t a good idea, and we ended up in a DRS train. It was one of my worst races, a long and frustrating race so I’m very angry.”

“I felt we were taken out of the race too early. You can’t expect to compete with a car that is gaining a second per lap with better tyres, what are you supposed to do? I stayed on track, kept calm, and did my best. I raced, but it wasn’t really a race, I was just circulating on the track.”
