08/06/2024

RB F1 has officially extended Yuki Tsunoda’s contract through to the end of 2025.

Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda will remain under the Red Bull umbrella until at least the end of 2025, confirmed by Helmut Marko earlier this weekend in Montreal.

Tsunoda is set to continue with RB F1 for the 2025 season, marking his fifth year with the Faenza-based team. Although the frustration of not being promoted is understandable, Tsunoda is pleased to retain the confidence of his superiors, positioning him as a potential candidate for a Red Bull seat should Sergio Pérez falter or Max Verstappen make an unexpected departure.

Indeed, Red Bull has secured its driver duo for two more years, though Pérez hinted at feeling increased pressure, suggesting Tsunoda could be a strategic alternative should performance issues arise.

“I am delighted to stay with Visa Cash App RB, and it feels great to have decided my future so early in the year,” Tsunoda expressed his gratitude to everyone at Red Bull and Honda for their significant role in his career trajectory.

“The team has ambitious development plans ahead, and I am eager to be part of it. It’s heartening to know that my hard work is appreciated and that the team believes I can help us advance on the grid.”

“We’ve made significant progress this season, which motivates me to continue giving my best with RB F1. For now, my focus is on the remaining races of the season, aiming to earn as many points as possible, grow with the team, and lay the groundwork for even greater success next year!”

Laurent Mekies, the director of the Italian team, attributed Tsunoda’s continued involvement to his impressive progression this year: “I’ve been tracking Yuki’s Formula 1 progress even before my return to Faenza, and it has been remarkable, year on year.”

“This year’s advancement has been phenomenal, and he continues to astonish us all race after race. There’s no question about his natural speed, to which he has added a much more mature approach, making him a very fast and consistent driver, and an excellent team player.”

“We are continuously improving our mutual understanding. Hence, we are progressing together—Yuki as a driver and the team as Visa Cash App RB. We share the same ambitions, so there are multiple compelling reasons to continue our journey together. He still has much to offer!”

Peter Bayer, CEO of RB F1, celebrated the extension of the Japanese driver’s contract, praising the behind-the-scenes efforts that have prepared Tsunoda to become the high-calibre driver he is today: “Yuki has graduated from the Red Bull and Honda Junior Driver programs, and it is through the fine work of all parties that he has reached his current level of performance.”

“As the saying goes, never change a winning team, so we are thrilled to confirm that Yuki is part of our future. He is a valuable asset both on and off the track, and his engaging nature has made him extremely popular among fans worldwide. We are delighted that he will continue with us.”
