Yuki Tsunoda to test Red Bull in Abu Dhabi, as Honda pushes for a closer evaluation of his future F1 potential.
Christian Horner, the team principal of Red Bull Racing, has confirmed that Yuki Tsunoda will finally have the opportunity to test in one of Red Bull’s cars after the season concludes in Abu Dhabi.
Honda has pushed for the Japanese driver to be evaluated and, possibly, considered as a future replacement for Sergio Perez. However, this scenario remains highly unlikely, given that Tsunoda is closely aligned with Honda, an engine supplier set to partner with Aston Martin F1 from 2026.
“Yuki is part of the junior team, and it’s something we’ve discussed with Honda,” Horner affirmed this evening at a FIA press conference.
“He will test the car during the post-season tyre test, and this has been agreed upon for some time.”
“It’ll be beneficial to give him a run and allow him the opportunity to work with Red Bull Racing’s engineers, to see how he performs in a Red Bull Racing car.”
Should Sergio Perez be replaced in 2025, Liam Lawson remains the logical favourite, although rumours from Mexico suggest that recent contacts have been made between Red Bull and Williams regarding Franco Colapinto. “In case Lawson doesn’t meet expectations,” sources close to the Argentine have noted.
