Tsunoda celebrates personal growth, while Lawson highlights relentless effort, as RB F1 concludes the season eighth in the Constructors’ Championship.
Yuki Tsunoda finished his season with a 12th place at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The RB F1 driver expressed pride in his achievements this year, despite his team being unable to compete with Alpine and Haas, both of whom finished in the top 10 on Sunday, with the team concluding the season eighth in the Constructors’ Championship.
“My race was almost over at the start. I don’t know what happened; I’ll need to hear from the team. But I’m 99% sure the clutch got stuck,” Tsunoda said as he explained his perspective.
“I’ve never stalled at the start in my life, and I didn’t do anything wrong with the procedure. I felt it in the pit stop too—the clutch couldn’t properly hold the car. It’s a shame because I wanted to have a good race. I tried my best, but it was tough.”
“A solid final race. I’m proud of what we achieved this year, proud of myself and the team. We couldn’t accomplish what we aimed for, but we gave 100% as a team, and that’s what matters most. We’ll have another chance next year.”
Liam Lawson appeared set for a strong race, but a poorly secured wheel during a pit stop forced him to complete a slow lap before returning to the garage. He didn’t hide his frustration over the setback.
“It’s disappointing. I had really strong pace throughout the race. Even though I was out of contention and a lap down, I still gave it everything. I think this was one of my best races—I gave it my all, but the pit stop issue ruined it,” Lawson stated.
Asked about his chances of returning next year and whether he had done all he could, the New Zealander offered a positive assessment of his six races with RB F1: “I gave everything in every session I drove. The decision is up to them, so we’ll see.”
