Amid swirling speculations, Tsunoda focuses on delivering top performances, aiming for a coveted spot at Red Bull.
Yuki Tsunoda has re-signed with RB F1 for 2025, despite Sergio Pérez’s ongoing challenges, positioning the Japanese driver for a potential slot at Red Bull. However, he remains cautiously optimistic and is not altering his approach for the second half of the season.
“It’s the same as the last three years. You know, if you want to prove yourself not just to Red Bull but to other teams as well. So, it’s business as usual,” Tsunoda stated.
“There’s a lot of speculation, but… the things I’m going to do remain the same and they’re out of my control anyway. I will thus do my utmost and focus on what I can actually influence.”
Following a strong start to the season, RB F1 has seen increasing competition, but Tsunoda remains upbeat: “The first half of the season went well. I think it’s become a bit tougher in the last five races of the first half because the other competitors are developing quite well.”
“They are catching up quickly and ultimately, the midfield became very tight and some races didn’t go as we would have liked, but we managed to make a strong comeback. I believe the last three races, as a team, will be even more challenging.”
“That’s what I’m expecting. But I think we have a strong team. We continue to fight for sixth place in the championship and we are bringing a lot of improvements. We must make the most of it and aim high.”
“Similarities” with Tost’s Management
Asked about changes in the team following the rebranding that marked the end of AlphaTauri after four seasons, Tsunoda notes that internally, the team functions similarly, especially since Laurent Mekies has taken over from Franz Tost.
“For me, only the color is different. I think inside, the engineers and mechanics are much the same. There are a few people who have joined our team recently and yes, I’ve seen many new faces as well.”
“But at the same time, I feel that the energy, particularly how Laurent and Franz think, how they want to shape the team, there are definitely similarities between them. So, I don’t feel like it’s a completely new team.”
“And as a Red Bull environment, it has always been like this. So I don’t think these aspects have necessarily changed. It looks different, but in fact, I think the synergies are very much the same.”
