Yuki Tsunoda sets his sights on Red Bull but keeps other career paths open as possibilities.
Yuki Tsunoda would like a chance with Red Bull in the future. The RB F1 driver will compete in his fifth season with the Faenza team next year and acknowledges that moving to the main team is his goal.
“My priority is a spot at Red Bull,” Tsunoda stated on the Beyond the Grid podcast. “I have wanted to race there since my start in Formula 1. They have one of the fastest cars on the grid. I want to drive that car and showcase my potential.”
“Red Bull Racing is one of the targets I’ve had since joining F1. The car is one of the fastest currently. I mean, right now, McLaren is probably a bit faster.”
“I just want to drive their car to be in the top four, top three, top two, whatever. At the same time, it might not be possible, or they are satisfied with their drivers.”
“I also want to race in the top 5 at some point. I hope the VCARB will be able to achieve that. We are making a lot of progress. We’ve made a big step forward. I’m trying to help them as much as I can.”
Tsunoda keeps two other options open
The Japanese driver believes his stock is higher than it has ever been, and he now wants to maintain it, whatever his future holds: “I think I need to keep doing what I’m doing. I started to show my worth this year right from the start of the season.”
“Moreover, a few teams have contacted me and talked about different directions. I never had this kind of thing last year, especially in the early years. I just need to keep producing results consistently.”
“So far, I have managed to do so, but this is the first year where I show all my potential, with good results, consistently. I know there are many things I can improve.”
“I know I can still improve on many points. I just need to show every team manager or every team that I am a good driver and that I can accomplish a lot.”
However, he would also like to aim for these results in his current team: “As I said, I want to be able to consistently finish in the top 5. If RB F1 can achieve this quickly, after all, we are growing—then I will stay loyal to my team and won’t need to leave.”
But aside from Red Bull and RB F1, Tsunoda does not close the door to other teams in the future: “But if another team comes along and the overall situation is satisfactory, I don’t see why I wouldn’t leave.”
“If another team can be interested or able to match what I think or what they think, then why not? But for now, I’m focusing on what I have to do. Continue to produce results to impress everyone.”
