After a difficult Spanish GP, Yuki Tsunoda targets progress through simulator testing following two days of private running in Spain.
Yuki Tsunoda is looking forward to returning to the Red Bull factory after the Spanish Grand Prix and two days of private testing held yesterday and today to improve his pace.
The Japanese driver endured a difficult weekend and qualified at the back of the grid on Saturday, having finished Q1 as the slowest driver.
Changes made to his F1 car before the race meant he started from the pit lane, from where he worked his way up to 13th place.
Tsunoda then remained in Spain. He took part yesterday in testing with an older RB19 chassis, alongside Pirelli’s 2026 tyre development programme. These tests aimed to continue exploring different setups with his engineers.
Today, he switched cars and drove last year’s RB20, modified to run the prototype tyres.
“There is something we now have to try in the simulator. A discovery. I’m really looking forward to it.”
“I hope it changes something. And honestly, it can’t be worse than this weekend.”
Tsunoda does temper expectations about any personal breakthrough.
“From my perspective, the simulator is more for the team, for something we want to try on track.”
“Time is very limited anyway. We can’t test all the settings with the components we want to explore.”
“Maybe my engineer will find a good trend or an interesting characteristic in my driving style, for example. Other than that, I think it’s more a matter of team and technical learning.”
