Yuki Tsunoda remains fully focused on securing sixth for RB F1, undistracted by teammate changes or Red Bull future speculation.
Yuki Tsunoda is making RB F1’s quest for sixth place in the Constructors’ Championship his main source of motivation in Austin. This weekend, he will have a new teammate in Liam Lawson, but as Tsunoda explains, it won’t affect his approach.
“I’m sure it will strengthen the mentality of trying not to get beaten, but I suppose that’s natural,” said Tsunoda. “There might be a bit more spice than usual, but I think it’s the same as last year. I know these things happen anyway.”
“At least from my side, I’m focusing on what I need to do, and obviously, Liam will do a good job too. I’ll make sure I stay ahead of him, and hopefully, we can achieve sixth place in the team standings. That’s our main objective.”
Austin has often been a favourable circuit for him: “I love the atmosphere, I love this place, I love this track, there’s just something good here. It’s not an easy race, but I’ve always started outside the points and managed to get back into them. There’s always good energy, and I’m confident.”
“We have new upgrades, and we want to fight for sixth in the Constructors’ Championship. Our rivals have closed the gap, especially Haas, so we need to improve the car to consistently finish in the top 10, like at the start of the season. It’s important for the team, and that’s what we’re focused on.”
Asked about his hopes of securing a seat at Red Bull, the Japanese driver insists he’s not concerned with that for now and has other priorities. “It was the same at the start of the season. At one point, I had fewer chances, around Miami I had a bit more, but it keeps changing.”
“To be honest, there’s no real point in talking about it. This environment is purely performance-driven. I just want to focus on what I need to improve and on scoring points for the team. Reaching sixth place, something we’ve never achieved in the team’s history, is my current motivation.”
