Yuki Tsunoda narrowly missed out on points in Melbourne after a poorly timed pit stop during late rain left him a frustrating 11th.
Yuki Tsunoda had a strong race in Melbourne, even running as high as fifth after overtaking Charles Leclerc. However, the timing of his pit stop during the late rain didn’t work in his favor, leaving him just outside the points in 11th place—a frustrating outcome for the Japanese driver.
“From inside the car, it really felt like we deserved points. I gave everything I could, but the weather and the timing just didn’t go our way,” Tsunoda said. At one point, he even found himself in second place before dropping back.
“After the safety car, I ended up 11th. The timing just wasn’t in our favor, but there are still positives to take from this weekend. Our qualifying pace was strong, and we need to keep performing at this level to beat our rivals.”
Despite the setback, Tsunoda acknowledged the tricky conditions but pointed out that he has faced worse: “It was tough out there, but I’ve already experienced racing on slicks in the rain in Monaco, which is way more difficult. At least here, there are runoff areas.”
While the result didn’t reflect his performance, Tsunoda and Racing Bulls will be looking to carry this momentum forward as they continue to fight for points in the upcoming races.
