Yuki Tsunoda and Kimi Antonelli completed key Pirelli F1 tyre tests in Barcelona, gathering vital 2026 data for future development.
On the second and final day of Pirelli’s testing yesterday at the Barcelona circuit, Mercedes F1 and Red Bull Racing drivers Kimi Antonelli and Yuki Tsunoda worked on the development of the 2026 tyres.
Once again, the programme focused on comparing different constructions and solutions for the hardest compounds in the range. A total of 300 laps were completed, split evenly: 150 for the Italian driver (best time: 1:14.903) and 150 for the Japanese driver (1:16.839).
“Our ongoing test programme is entering its decisive phase,” explained Mario Isola, Pirelli’s Head of Motorsport.
“Indeed, the constructions must be homologated by September 1, while for the compounds, we have until December 1. Here in Barcelona, a circuit that provides a tough test for tyres, we evaluated the hardest compounds in the range and gathered valuable data that we will verify during the Silverstone tests in July, after the British Grand Prix.”
“I would like to thank the three teams (including Racing Bulls on Tuesday) and their respective drivers who supported us during these tests. We know it’s not easy to stay at a circuit for two extra days after a triple-header that ended last Sunday.”
The next development tests for 2026 will take place on June 19 and 20 at the Fiorano circuit, where Scuderia Ferrari will spend two days testing wet-weather tyre prototypes.
