George Russell fuels the paddock buzz, asserting he’d have clinched the title in a McLaren or Red Bull this year.
Which driver could have won the title in which F1 car? The psychological game continues in Qatar.
After Max Verstappen claimed he could have won the title in the McLaren or Ferrari, George Russell also believes that if he had raced with the McLaren or Red Bull this year, he would be world champion.
“Yes, absolutely with the McLaren. And with the Red Bull? Certainly as well!”
Great self-confidence or objective analysis? Obviously the latter!
“Max has won once in the last 12 races, so he’s very easy to beat. The difference between Max and Lando is that when Max had his chance, he delivered, while his rivals who should have beaten him this year didn’t.”
“Lando and McLaren lost a lot of points, and so Max, who is an exceptional driver, clinched the championship very early.”
“I say I could have won with the Red Bull because it was the fastest car at the start. Even ‘Checo’ (Perez) finished second a few times. It’s only in the second half of the season that they became the third-best team.”
“On my side, if you look at the three times we had the chance to take pole, we delivered each time. In all the races where we could win, we did, except in Montreal. Most of the time, we achieved the best possible result.”
