Aston Martin endured a difficult Mexican Grand Prix, with Alonso retiring and Stroll narrowly missing out on a top-10 finish.
Fernando Alonso’s 400th Formula 1 Grand Prix—his 397th actual race start—was not one to remember, ending prematurely with a retirement in Mexico.
“We capitalised on a chaotic start, and everything was under control from our side as we fought just outside the top 10. However, on lap 13, we saw elevated brake temperatures, and unfortunately, a few laps later, we had to retire the car.”
“I felt a lot of love this weekend, with many kind messages and respect from people. Despite the result, I leave with a positive feeling from the weekend, and I’m confident we can perform better in Brazil.”
Lance Stroll came close to salvaging the weekend for Aston Martin F1 but finished 11th, narrowly missing out on the points.
“It was a hard-fought race today. We did everything we could while managing some cooling issues, but we still lack the pace to fight for points. The last two weeks have been tough, but I hope we can be a bit more competitive in Brazil.”
Team Principal Mike Krack offered a predictably sober assessment.
“Lance put in a strong drive today, but points were out of reach. We lacked pace throughout the weekend, but Lance managed the race well, took care of the tyres, and enjoyed a few good battles on track.”
“It’s a shame that Fernando’s 400th Grand Prix weekend ended prematurely with a front brake issue. As temperatures rose too high, we had no choice but to retire the car. While we missed out on points today, we’ll take the lessons and positives forward to Brazil next week. Full credit goes to our track team for their tireless work throughout this demanding triple-header.”
