FIA Confirms 2025 F1 Entrants: confirming driver lineups, team changes

13/12/2024

The FIA unveils 2025 F1 entrants, confirming driver lineups, team changes, and introducing four fresh faces to the grid.

The FIA has today released the official list of entrants for the 2025 F1 season.

No announcements have yet been made regarding Red Bull drivers for both Red Bull Racing and Racing Bulls. So far, Red Bull has confirmed Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez, and Yuki Tsunoda across its two teams, but not Liam Lawson. However, this is subject to change, of course.

It is confirmed, however, that Red Bull’s second team has undergone a name change for the second consecutive year on the official list.

This year, the team changed its name from AlphaTauri to RB F1. The team’s official name registered with the FIA, referencing two sponsors, was Visa Cash App RB Formula One Team, while its chassis was simply called “RB.”

Since the team is registered under a company named “Racing Bulls,” some speculated that “RB” stood for this. However, RB denied the letters referred to “Racing Bulls” or any other phrase when it was revealed earlier this year.

The new FIA F1 entrants list for 2025 released today confirms that “Racing Bulls” has indeed replaced “RB” in the team’s nomenclature. This marks the team’s fifth name and the fourth change since its original outfit, Minardi, was purchased by Red Bull in 2005. Initially renamed Toro Rosso, it was rebranded as AlphaTauri in 2020.

The list also confirms the numbers for the four new full-time drivers on the grid. Sauber’s newcomer Gabriel Bortoleto will use number 5, previously associated with Sebastian Vettel. Alpine F1 driver Jack Doohan will carry number 7, which was Kimi Raikkonen’s number until 2021.

Mercedes driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli has chosen number 12, last used by Felipe Nasr in 2016. Haas F1’s Oliver Bearman will race under number 87, which has not been used in a Formula 1 World Championship event since Red Amick raced with it at the Indianapolis 500 in 1959.
