Thailand moves forward with plans for a Bangkok street race, as F1 CEO Domenicali meets the Prime Minister to discuss feasibility.
Plans for a Formula 1 Grand Prix in Thailand are progressing. Stefano Domenicali, CEO of F1, recently met with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to discuss a potential street circuit in Bangkok.
During the Australian Grand Prix, Domenicali mentioned growing interest from several countries in hosting an F1 race. He confirmed his visit to Bangkok to explore this opportunity.
Feasibility Study for a Bangkok GP Underway
Following the meeting, the Prime Minister announced that the Thai government would commission a feasibility study to assess the possibility of hosting a race as early as 2028.
Thailand already has a FIA-certified circuit in Buriram, but the idea of a street race in the capital is gaining traction. Domenicali described the project as “very impressive.”
A Positive Impact for Thailand
“I was delighted to meet with Paetongtarn Shinawatra and her team to discuss their ambitious plans for a race in Bangkok. I look forward to continuing these discussions in the coming months,” said the F1 CEO.
The Prime Minister emphasized the potential benefits of hosting the event, including infrastructure investments, job creation, new revenue streams, and technological innovation.
With these developments, Thailand is on a promising path to joining the Formula 1 calendar. More to come.
