Susie Wolff has initiated legal action against the FIA in France, stemming from derogatory remarks related to her F1 role.
Susie Wolff announced on Wednesday evening that she has filed a lawsuit in a French court against the FIA. The criminal complaint, filed on March 4, pertains to comments made against the director of the F1 Academy.
Mohammed Ben Sulayem, the president of the FIA, had publicly expressed concerns that Susie Wolff could misuse her position within the F1 hierarchy to convey confidential information to her husband, Toto Wolff, the team principal of Mercedes F1.
Seemingly to support its president’s statements, the federation initiated an investigation, which was quickly closed without further action. The Wolffs then criticized this move, deeming the comments to be defamatory. This is why Susie Wolff is now taking legal action.
“I can confirm that I personally filed a criminal complaint with the French courts on March 4 regarding statements made about me by the FIA last December,” wrote Susie Wolff, referring to the comments about her and her husband.
“There has still been no transparency or accountability regarding the FIA’s behavior and that of its staff in this matter. I believe more than ever that it is important to stand up, speak out against inappropriate behavior, and ensure that individuals are held accountable.”
Determined not to let such accusations take hold in the collective unconscious, she emphasizes that everyone must stand by their words: “If some think that silence exempts them from any responsibility, that is not the case.”
