Hill & Herbert: Susie Wolff ‘Perfect’ for FIA Presidency

04/03/2025

F1 icons Damon Hill and Johnny Herbert endorse Susie Wolff as the ideal candidate to replace Mohammed Ben Sulayem as FIA president.

Two former F1 drivers have reacted to the possibility of Susie Wolff challenging Mohammed Ben Sulayem for the FIA presidency.

As we exclusively revealed a few days ago (read here), sources claim that Toto Wolff’s wife is considering the possibility of becoming the next president of F1’s governing body.

Ben Sulayem, increasingly controversial, has held the position since late 2021, and much of the motorsport world is looking for a candidate to replace him.

Damon Hill publicly backed Wolff for the role on social media, simply stating: “She would be perfect.”

Johnny Herbert, a longtime F1 steward recently dismissed by the FIA, believes Wolff has enough experience to mount a credible campaign against Ben Sulayem.

“Susie Wolff challenging Mohammed Ben Sulayem shouldn’t be an issue.”

“Susie Wolff has extensive experience as a driver in various forms of motorsport, with her time at Williams, racing in F1 and DTM—the German touring car series—being married to Toto, and now being part of the F1 Academy at the same time.”

“She has a lot of experience.”

“She’s a very intelligent woman who could bring a lot to the future of F1. If she feels she can contribute, then why not?”

In the Sakhir paddock, many insiders have privately welcomed the idea if it materializes. However, some have already suggested that, in the event of her successful election, Toto Wolff should step back from his role as Mercedes F1 team principal to avoid any conflict of interest.

Susie Wolff has not yet commented on the speculation.
