Alonso shines with eighth place in Baku, while Stroll faces balance woes in qualifying.
Fernando Alonso emerged as the best of the rest behind the top teams, clocking the eighth fastest time in qualifying on the streets of the Baku city circuit.
The Spaniard was all smiles after the session.
“It was an exhilarating qualifying for us, full of surprises. The lap here in Baku is tremendously adrenaline-fueled, and you take on a significant level of risk. We managed to get through Q1, although I was somewhat pessimistic heading into the next session.”
“The car performed better in Q2 and the lap felt very rewarding. Ultimately, I think we should be quite pleased with eighth place for tomorrow and starting ahead of the two Williams, which seem quite quick here.”
“However, we cannot afford to be overly confident, as we’ve generally struggled over the course of the weekend. We will need to be quite defensive tomorrow and see if we can score some points.”
Lance Stroll is slightly off the pace compared to recent races. This time he finished 15th, quite far from his teammate and struggling with the balance of his AMR24.
“It was a challenging session. We were on the back foot and struggled to find grip and balance, so we need to work more to understand why. It’s disappointing, but we’ll see how we manage in the race tomorrow. I’m hoping for some opportunities.”
