Lance Stroll clinched two points for Aston Martin at Imola, while Fernando Alonso’s race served as a crucial testing ground.

Lance Stroll secured two points for Aston Martin F1 at Imola after a challenging race. The Canadian expertly managed a very long first stint on medium tires, finishing ahead of a fiercely contested pack that included Yuki Tsunoda and the Haas drivers.

“We were hoping for a safety car, so we stayed out very long,” said Stroll, who capitalized on fresher tires at the end of the race to gain several positions, ultimately finishing ninth. “It was fun to make some overtakes at the end.”

Although his team is more in the midfield than at the front, Stroll is convinced that progress is being made: “I believe so, I hope so. We’re not as competitive as we’d like to be right now, so we have to keep pushing.”

Fernando Alonso had a very tough race starting from the pits, confirming that his race was essentially a giant test for Aston Martin to avoid a repeat of a disastrous Saturday: “We need to look at the data we gathered today and see what the team observed differently between the two cars.”

“We set up both cars with different setups, and we’ll see if we found a direction for the upcoming races. Qualifying dictates everything here, and it will be the same in Monaco, so we need a perfect Saturday to have a good Sunday.”

He admitted that by the end of qualifying, he already knew his race would be difficult: “It’s a frustrating weekend, you already know how the race will go. You hope for safety cars or red flags, but we started from the back, finished the race, and that’s it.”
